Hello all, I've pushed out a program to your computers called Backup and Sync from Google. One thing it does is allow you to create google documents from your desktop using the three icons for Docs, Sheets, and Slides. Double-clicking those icons will open Chrome for you or open a new tab in Chrome and go to the online application. The other thing it does is allow you to sync your Google Drive on your teacher computer. Here's how to set that up: Before you start, log in to your Google Drive account online and create a folder called "sync." If you don't know how to do that, look at this page (click to view). 1: Look in your start menu for the program called "Backup and Sync from Google." Run it. If it doesn't run, it will work next time you start your computer. 2: Enter your user name and then password to authenticate. 3: Click GOT IT to go to the screen that will let you select folders 4: UNCHECK all the folders: desktop, documents, and pictures. If you leave these checked, the program WILL NOT WORK. Click next. 5: Click GOT IT to proceed to select the folders on your Google Drive to sync back to your desktop. Select "sync these folders only." Select the "sync" folder you created earlier and un-check everything else. 6: Once you continue, a folder on your desktop will be created called "Google Drive." Double click it to open a windows folder in that location. You can drag and drop to it, or you can save files there using "save as" when you are in a program. The sync is connected to that computer only, so when using another computer you will have to get to the files by going to drive.google.com and logging in normally. Something else to note is that if you delete the file from the synced folder on your computer, it will also be deleted from Google Drive. Files that are too important to lose should still be backed up in the normal way. If your computer fails or gets destroyed somehow, your files in the Drive folder won't delete from the cloud until you reconnect and re-sync, so make sure if that happens you go online and back those files up or move them into another folder. Hope this helps you back up important files more easily. Thanks!

Google has made a G Suite (formerly Google Apps) certification course available for teachers to get some insight and some PD hours! Here's the link: Google Training Center. If you complete the PD, let me know, and let your fellow teachers know that you can show them all the cool things!
