ACTION REPORT

Special Called Meeting, June 4, 2002

CALL TO ORDER - Meeting was called to order by President, Lowanda Washington, at 6:00 P.M.

Invocation was given by trustee, Ms. Sonja Washington.

Pledge of Allegiance was led by Ms. Sonja Washington.

Roll Call: All trustees were present with the exception of trustee, Carman Dingrando.

AGENDA ITEMS:

Authorize to Publish for Student/Athletic Insurance - Motion by Mrs, Byrleen Terry, seconded by Mr. Danny Vickers, to authorize superintendent to publish for proposals for student/athletic insurance. The motion carried unanimously.

Results of Closes Session;

Personnel Employment - Motion by Mr. Roger Nutt, seconded by Ms. Sonja Washington, to employ Byron Malone-Assistant Band Director for the 2002-02 school year. The motion carried unanimously.

Personnel Resignations - Motion by Mr. Danny Vickers, seconded by Mr. Roger Nutt, to accept resignations from Deborah McKeen, Robert Bardin, Virginia Goodrum, Marie Belgodere, Gabriel Cary, Susan Cary and Katherine Bolanos. The motion carried unanimously.

BUDGET WORKSHOP

Superintendent Hopkins commented to the Board that everyone has cut their budget by ten percent. A copy of the proposed budget listing the different funds and functions and a copy of Notice of Public Meeting to Discuss Budget and Proposed Tax Rate was given to each Board member. Superintendent Hopkins also stated that the district can no longer afford the expense to run the in town routes that pick up the students who live less than 2 miles from the schools. A discussion ensued on this item. Superintendent Hopkins stated she will draft a letter notifying and explaining the situation to the parents/guardians. Questions were asked by the Board members on the funds and functions listed on the handout. It was noted and stressed that the district needs to start building a fund balance. The next budget workshop will be June 18 before the regularly scheduled Board meeting and a Public Hearing on Budget and proposed tax rate will be held on June 27.

President Washington adjourned the meeting at 8:00 PM.
