ACTION REPORT

July 15, 2003

Workshop

  • Call To Order - The workshop/Session was called to order by president, Lowanda Washington at 6:03 PM.
  • All Board members were present.
  • 2003-2004 District Plan - Superintendent Hopkins reviewed the goals in the 2003-04 District Plan. Questions were asked by Board members. A discussion ensued on opening the door for better communication between the school and parents and the volunteer program.
  • 2003-04 MES Campus Plans & Student Handbook/Code of Conduct - JoAnn Garrison, Assistant Superintendent for School Improvement, briefed the Board on the Elementary Campus Plans and Student Handbook/Student Code of Conduct. Mrs. Garrison stated that Jo Dell Blann from Region 12 worked with the administrators on all the campus plans. Questions were asked by the Board members.
  • 2003-2004 MMS Campus Plans - JoAnn Garrison briefed the Board on the Middle School Campus Plans. Mrs. Garrison stated that the plans are a continuation from the 2002-03 campus plans. Questions were asked by the Board.
  • Falls Ed. Coop Alternative Center Plans - Mrs. Marilyn Martin, Principal of the Falls Education Coop Alternative Center, reviewed the Falls Education Coop Alternative Center Plans. She explained the program to the Board. Questions were asked by the Board.
  • Athletic Handbook - Athletic Director, Jerry Malone stated that no major changes were made in the Athletic Handbook. He briefly went over the handbook and the Drug Policy. Questions were asked by the Board.
  • Report From Michelle Wellhelm - Mrs. Wellhelm, Intervention Specialist, stated she feels up beat what has transpired the last weeks. She went over some positives: 1) district has moved in a positive direction; 2) additional new leadership; 3) campus plans- everything should flow from the campus plan; 4) Board support to move Marlin elementary to a higher level from low performing; 5) district utilizing some support systems from around the state; 6)Board support for additional staff; 7) district ready to meet the public-parent involvement-Board to meet parents. Continue to keep expectations high. She stated the district is going in a positive direction. Questions were asked by the Board members.
  • Report on TSPR - Superintendent Hopkins gave a report on Texas School Performance Review to the Board. She informed the Board that the District will accomplish as many as we can before they come back within a year. Updates will be given to the Board as these are accomplished.
  • Adjourned - President Washington adjourned the workshop session at 7:15 PM.
