
SPECIAL CALLED MEETING OF THE BOARD OF TRUSTEES
MARLIN INDEPENDENT SCHOOL DISTRICT

CALL TO ORDER
1. The meeting was called to order by President, Lowanda Washington, at 6:31
P.M.
2. Roll call: Ms. Lowanda Washington, Mr. Roger Nutt, Mrs. Byrleen Terry, Ms.
Sonja Washington.
Mr. Terry Douglas arrived at 6:33 P.M
Absent: Mr. Danny Vickers
District Report - Superintendent Hopkins stated
to the Board when TEA releases the Academic Excellence
Indicator System Report (AEIS) it is required that school districts hold a public
hearing. We also have two copies of the Marlin ISD Annual Report for 2003-04
for viewing. Superintendent Hopkins then asked Jo Ann Garrison, Assistant Superintendent
for School Improvement, to bring the report on Elementary and Middle Schools.
Grades PreK-8 Report - Mrs. Jo Ann Garrison presented
handouts to the Board and reviewed the contents. She
stated that elementary school is academically unacceptable and has met annual
yearly progress and middle school is academically acceptable and has met annual
yearly progress. The following are areas of focus and concentration: benchmarking,
testing, grades and passage, weak areas, curriculum and TEKS/TAKS.
Grades 9-12 Report - Bill Almond, High School Principal,
presented a copy of TAKS Action Plan to each
Board member. He stated that high school is academically acceptable. He reviewed
the following topics in the handout: tutorials, training, material needs and
curriculum changes.
