MEETING OF THE BOARD OF TRUSTEES
MARLIN INDEPENDENT SCHOOL DISTRICT
Marlin Middle School Cafeteria - 6:00 p.m.

November 15, 2005

CALL TO ORDER
1. The meeting was called to order by President, Lowanda Washington, at 6:10 p.m.
2. Invocation was given by Roger Nutt.
3. Pledge of Allegiance to the American Flag and Texas Flag was led by the high school FFA
4. Roll call: Ms. Lowanda Washington, Mr. Roger Nutt, Mr. Terry Douglas, Mr. David Lawson, Mr. Danny Vickers, Ms. Sonja Washington, and Mr. Gary Gray
5. Public comments/audience participation: None

Bill(s) from The Chicken Place - Motion by Mr. Roger Nutt, seconded by Mr. David Lawson, to approve the bills from The Chicken Place. Voting for: Mr. Roger Nutt, Mr. David Lawson, Mr. Terry Douglas Mr. Gary Gray, Ms. Sonja Washington and Ms. Lowanda Washington. Mr. Danny Vickers abstained from voting. The motion passed.

Consent Agenda - Motion by Ms. Sonja Washington, seconded by Mr. Terry Douglas, to approve the consent
agenda as presented. The motion carried unanimously. Consent agenda items: minutes of the October 18, 2005 (6:00 p.m.) Public Hearing, October 18, 2005 (6:20 p.m.) Regular Meeting, October 25, 2005 Special Called Meeting, October 27, 2005 Special Called Meeting, November 6, 2005 Special Called Meeting, November 7, 2005 Special Called Meeting, and November 8, 2005 Special Called Meeting and monthly financial report.

Approve 2004-05 Audit - Motion by Mr. Danny Vickers, seconded by Mr. Roger Nutt, to approve the 2004-05 audit as presented. The motion carried unanimously. Mr. Danny Vickers requested a report on the recommendations made by the auditors.

Cast votes for the MISD Falls County Appraisal District Board of Directors - Motion by Mr. Roger Nutt, seconded by Mr. Terry Douglas, to cast 1415 votes as follows: 1015 votes for Mr. David Lawson, 100 votes for Mr. Elmer Cohn, 100 votes for Mr. Rufus Martinez, 100 votes for Mr. C. L. Moore and 100 votes for Mr. Gary Skrabanek. The motion carried unanimously.

Award bus proposals - Motion by Mr. Roger Nutt, seconded by Ms. Sonja Washington, to accept bus proposals from Mr. Timothy Grams for bus #6 and bus #12 and reject the other proposals from Mr. Timothy Grams. The motion carried unanimously.

Textbook Committee Nominations - Motion by Mr. Danny Vickers, seconded by Ms. Sonja Washington to postpone the nominations for the Spring 2006 Textbook Selection Committee until December, 2005, by which time the matter should be clarified by TEA. The motion carried unanimously.

Discussion Item - School Improvement - Ms. Kimberly Jackson presented her concerns to the board and asked questions about math textbooks, bus routes in south Marlin and other concerns she had . Her questions were answered by board members and administrators. The board expressed appreciation for her concern in our school.

Closed Session - At 6:50 p.m. President Washington announced the Board will go into Closed Session under Section 551.074.

The Board came out of Closed Session and reconvened to Open Session at 8:30 p.m.

Personnel Employment - Motion by Mr. Roger Nutt, seconded by Ms. Sonja Washington, to accept the
recommendation to employ Emily Silverman-elementary school fifth grade math and science and Brittnay Segler-elementary school fourth grade self-contained. The motion carried unanimously.
