MEETING OF THE BOARD OF TRUSTEES
MARLIN INDEPENDENT SCHOOL DISTRICT
Marlin Middle School Cafeteria 6:00 p.m.
April 17, 2007

Call to Order - President, Lowanda Washington called the meeting to orderat 6:00 p.m.

Moment of Silence was observed.

Pledge of Allegiance to the American Flag and the Texas Flag was led by Marlin Middle School Gifted/Talented students instructed by John Halstead. Students leading the pledge were: Chris Battise, LaSaundra Grant, Kayla Crear, Griselda Albarran, Tyler Alford and Fred Fondon.

Roll Call: Mr. Roger Nutt, Mr. Danny Vickers, Mr. Terry Douglas, Ms. Sonja Washington, Ms. Lowanda Washington, Mr. David Lawson and Mr. Steve Johnson.

Public Comments/ Audience Participation - None

Bill(s) from The Chicken Place - Motion made by David Lawson, seconded by Steve Johnson to approve payment of bill(s) to The Chicken Place. Voting in favor of payment were: Roger Nutt, Terry Douglas, Sonja Washington, Lowanda Washington, David Lawson and Steve Johnson. Mr. Danny Vickers abstained from voting. The motion carried.

Consent Agenda - Motion made by Roger Nutt, seconded by Sonja Washington to approve consent agenda as presented. Consent Agenda items included: Minutes of Regular Meeting, March 27, 2006 at 6:00 p.m. and monthly financial report. Motion carried unanimously.

Certification Of Unopposed Candidates - Motion made by Danny Vickers, seconded by Terry Douglas to approve Certification of Unopposed Candidates for the May 12, 2007 trustee election. Motion carried unanimously.

Order of Cancellation of May 12, 2007 Trustee Election - Motion made by Danny Vickers, seconded by David Lawson to approve Order of Cancellation of May 12, 2007 trustee election. Motion carried unanimously.

School Calendar For 2007-08 - Motion made by Roger Nutt, seconded by Sonja Washington to approve 2007-08 school calendar. Motion carried unanimously.

Lease Agreement Between Marlin ISD and Lisa Lankford - Mr. Ray Matthews, Superintendent presented background information. In his presentation to the Board he stated, "The District does not have a foreseeable use of the facility located at 201 Monroe St. due to a decline in student enrollment for the past two years and a lack of funding for programs that previously utilized the building." He also stated, "At this time, our District facilities are more than adequate to meet our needs now and in the future." Motion made by Roger Nutt, seconded by Sonja Washington to lease the facility at 201 MonroeSt. to Lisa Lankford at a yearly rate of $600.00 per year. Motion carried unanimously.

Personnel Matters - President, Lowanda Washington announced the Board would go into closed session at 6:11 p.m. to discuss personnel matters under Texas Gov't Code 551.146. The Board reconvened into open session at 7:29 p.m.

Superintendent's Appraisal, Goals, Directives, Contract, Compensation, etc. - No action taken on this agenda item.

Recommendation & Action for Non-renewal of Term Contracts - No action taken on this agenda item.

Employment of Personnel for 2007-08 School Year - Motion made by Danny Vickers, seconded by David Lawson to approve employment of personnel for 2007-08 school year. Teachers recommended for employment: Maria Rodriquez, MMS Counselor, Anna Johnson, Marlin Elementary School, and Jose Esparza, Marlin High School. The motion carried unanimously.

Resignations - The Board recognized the following resignations as received and accepted by Ray Matthews, Superintendent:

Lydia Erhardt Marlin Elementary School
Helen Ford Marlin Elementary School
LauraAnne Madl Marlin Elementary School
Kathryn Estep Marlin High School

Adjournment - President, Lowanda Washington adjourned the meeting at 7:31 p.m.
