    Public Hearing on the District 2007-08

Academic Excellence Indicator System Report

December 16, 2008

Marlin Middle School 6:00 p.m.

Call to Order                Board President, Lowanda Sias called the meeting to order at 6:00 p.m.

Roll Call: Roger Nutt, Danny Vickers, Tania Baker, Sonja Washington, Lowanda Sias and David Lawson. Trustee, Steve Johnson arrived at 6:03 p.m. A quorum was established for the meeting.

 2007-08 Academic Excellence  Indicator System -  

Ray Matthews, Superintendent opened the presentation  and discussion of the 2007-08 AEIS Report. Copies of the report were given to the trustees. Mr. Matthews reviewed the ratings for the District and ratings for each campus. He informed the trustees that at the next meeting each campus would present benchmark testing results from the beginning of the school year to January, as well as projections for overall campus improvement. Questions and comments were made by the trustees concerning the report.

 Public Comments          None

 Adjournment                President, Lowanda Sias adjourned the meeting at 6:12 p.m.

MEETING OF THE BOARD OF TRUSTEES

MARLIN INDEPENDENT SCHOOL DISTRICT

Marlin Middle School Cafeteria  6:15 p.m.

December 16, 2008

Call to Order                Board President, Lowanda Sias called the meeting to order at 6:15 p.m.

Moment of Silence was observed.

 Pledge of Allegiance to the American Flag and the Texas Flag was led by Marlin Elementary School students.

 Roll Call   Roger Nutt, Danny Vickers, Tania Baker, Sonja Washington, Lowanda Sias, David Lawson, and Steve Johnson. A quorum was           established for the meeting.

 Public Comments/Audience Participation - Alfornett Holloway-Timms addressed the trustees concerning District Hiring/Human Resources policies and procedures.

 Board Continuing  Education Requirement  - Texas Education Code, Section 11.159(b) requirement was acknowledged by Board President, Lowanda Sias. The December board meeting minutes will reflect whether each trustee has met or is delinquent in meeting the training required to be completed as of the date of the meeting

Safety Recognition Of District Bus Drivers - At the request of Ray Matthews, Superintendent and approval of Board President, Lowanda Sias, agenda item

8 was presented prior to item 7. Gloria Barber, Transportation Director recognized and presented safety recognition pins to the following:

 District Bus Driver of the Year - Gloria Barber, Transportation Director recognized Mary Randolph as District Bus Driver of the Year.Ms. Randolph was presented a jacket and certificate as part of this recognition.

 Consent Agenda -  Motion made by Roger Nutt, seconded by Tania Baker to approve minutes of the Regular Board Meeting held November 18, 2008 at 6:00 p.m. as read and monthly financial report as presented. Motion carried unanimously.

Personnel Matters - Board President, Lowanda Sias announced the Board would go into closed session to discuss personnel matters under Texas Government Code 551.146. The Board reconvened into open session at 7:27 p.m.  

 Superintendents Appraisal, Goals, Directives, Compensation, etc. - None

 Recommendation For Employment - Motion made by Roger Nutt, seconded by Tania Baker to employ the following for the remainder of the 2008-09 school year:

                                    Wing Sze Wong           Marlin High School

                                    Edgar A. Rondon         Marlin High School

 Motion carried unanimously.

Resignation(s) - The Board recognized the following resignation as received and  accepted by Ray Matthews, Superintendent.

Resignation for Sally Black, Marlin Elementary School accepted at the end of her current contract.

Adjournment - Board President, Lowanda Sias adjourned the meeting at 7:28 p.m.
