ACTION ITEMS:
Bill (s) from City Auto Parts - Motion by Mr. Samuel Garcia, seconded by Ms. Lowanda Washington, to approve the bills from City Auto Parts. Voting for: Mr. Samuel Garcia, Ms. Lowanda Washington, Ms. Rose Sedillo, Mr. Keith Alston, Mr. Danny Vickers and Mr. Arthur Douglas. Mr. Carman Dingrando abstained from voting. The motion passed.
Bill (s) from The Chicken Place - Motion by Mr. Samuel Garcia, seconded by Mr. Carman Dingrando, to approve the bills from The Chicken Place. Voting for: Ms. Rose Sedillo, Ms. Lowanda Washington, Mr. Arthur Douglas and Mr. Keith Alston. Mr. Danny Vickers abstained from voting. The motion passed.
Consent Agenda - President Arthur Douglas amended the consent agenda to move Item "C" - Update on NAACP Lawsuit of the Superintendent's Report, to Closed Session for any discussion. Motion by Mr. Samuel Garcia, seconded by Ms. Rose Sedillo, to approve the consent agenda with amendment. The motion carried unanimously.
Budget Amendments - Motion by Mr. Keith Alston, seconded by Ms. Lowanda Washington, to approve the budget amendments as presented. The motion carried unanimously.
Cornerstones fro the new ES & MS - Mr. Charles Groseclose, Deputy of Masonic District 45, briefed the Board on the cornerstones for the new elementary and middle schools. Each stone will have engraved - Grand Lodge of Texas; the date and the Seal of the Lodge. The cost of the cornerstones will be the schools responsibility. A date will be set later for the Grand Lodge to have a dedication ceremony. Motion by Mr. Samuel Garcia, seconded by Mr. Danny Vickers, to approve receiving the cornerstones for the new elementary school and middle school from the Masonic Lodge. Voting for: Mr. Samuel Garcia, Mr. Danny Vickers, Ms. Rose Sedillo, Ms. Lowanda Washington and Mr. Arthur Douglas, Mr. Carman Dingrando and Mr. Keith Alston abstained from voting. The motion passed.
Sale of Property on Bryden & Houghton Streets - Mr. Tim Mowbray and Mr. John Adams gave a presentation to the Board on the Bay Area Rehabilitation Center who is interested in the property for a supportive living facility and the agreement between Marlin ISD and Accessible Space, Inc., a Minnesota nonprofit corporation. Motion by Mr. Samuel Garcia, seconded by Mr. Carman Dingrando, to authorize administration to enter into an agreement for option to purchase land per attorney recommendation. Purchase price is $1,000.00. The motion carried unanimously.
Cancellation Option for Sodexho Marriott - Motion by Mr. Danny Vickers to authorize superintendent to terminate food service contract with Sodexho Marriott as of May 26, 2000. There was no second to the motion. Motion failed.
Advertise Bids for Concession Stands at Football Field - Motion by Mr. Samuel Garcia, seconded by Mr. Danny Vickers, to approve advertising for bids for concession stands at the football field. The motion carried unanimously.
Accept Bid for Bus - This agenda item was withdrawn because no bids were received for a bus.
Band Booster Contribution & Guarantee - Motion by Mr. Samuel Garcia,, seconded by Mr. Carman Dingrando, to give administration authority to enter into agreement with the Band Boosters and that MISD have final say in the use of the concession stands. The motion carried unanimously. Superintendent, Letha Hopkins stated to the Board that the equipment in the concession stand belongs to the Band Boosters, not the district and to make the agreement so that the district has the option to let different organizations come in and use the stands per the conditions of the agreement.
Early Voting Judge, Alternate & Judges & Clerks - Motion by Mr. Danny Vickers, seconded by Mr. Carman Dingrando, to approve Velia Urive as early voting judge, Michele Hamilton as alternate and judges and clerks for District C and D as presented. The motion carried unanimously. The following is a list of the judges and clerks:
DISTRICT C - Judge Billie Harris; Clerks - Marty Clark and Dora Garcia
DISTRICT D - Judge Naomi Williams; Clerks - Bishop Williams and Pearlie Mae Ford.
Superintendent's Report - Mrs. Letha Hopkins, Superintendent, reported to the Board: 1) Update on Challenge Academy; 2) Update on Softball Field
Results of Closed Session:
Composite Results of Superintendent's Evaluation - President Arthur Douglas compiled all evaluations and additional comments turned in by the Board members and presented the results to Superintendent Hopkins. No action was taken.
Personnel Employment - Motion by Mr. Danny Vickers, seconded by Ms. Rose Sedillo, to employ Don Padgett as high school coach for the 1999-2000 school year. The motion carried unanimously.
Renewal of Contract Personnel for 2000-2001 School Year - Motion by Mr. Danny Vickers, seconded by Mr. Samuel Garcia, to offer contracts to the following. The motion carried unanimously.

Personnel Resignations/Retiree - Motion by Mr. Danny Vickers, seconded by Ms. Lowanda Washington, to accept the resignations from Jeff Early, John Campbell, William Allen, Argelia Ramirez, Brian Henry, Chris Hill, Jean Harrison and retiree Mary Lynn Lindsey. The motion carried unanimously.
Board Comments:
Keith Alston - Mary Lynn Lindsey will really be missed.
Danny Vickers - Congratulated the high school on the Successful Schools Award, the Ag Team, the Robotic team and the number sense and dictionary skill students. All of these are good things for the betterment of our reputation as a school district where students can and do get a quality education with academic background. Thanked the Masonic Lodge and those people who are helping to establish those ties between the community and school. Sorry Mary Lynn Lindsey is leaving and Sammie Garcia will be missed.
Carman Dingrando -Thanked the girls and boys basketball team for bringing the prayer and leading the pledge at tonight's meeting.
Sammie Garcia - Handed his resignation to President Douglas. Due to circumstances related to his business, he is having to relocate. Expressed thanks to MISD and residence of this community for all they have done. Thanked all the Kindergarten teachers and aides, principals, assistant principals and superintendent for a great job they are doing. The district is headed in the right direction.
Rose Sedillo - Commended the basketball teams on their successful season. Thanked Mary Lynn Lindsey for all her hard work. Also thanked the principals, assistant principals, teachers and superintendent for their hard work. Sorry to see Sammie Garcia leaving; was a good Board member and community leader.
Lowanda Washington - No comments.
Arthur Douglas - Pleased with the direction that the school district is going. This is the best position the district has been in. Thanked the leadership of Superintendent Hopkins. Pleased that the Masonic Lodge asked about the cornerstones. Thanked Sammie Garcia for the support he has given to the Board and community.
