ACTION REPORT

Special Called School Board Meeting - August 9, 2001

Budget Workshop

All Board members present.

Mr. Frank Steele with Hudson Anderson & Associates briefed the Board on the budget. He reported the 2001-2002 budget balances and the 2000-2001 budget broke even with some surplus in the bank. He commended the administration for their efforts to start building back a fund balance. He was pleased that it started showing this year. President Arthur Douglas also applauded the staff for this.

Mrs. Kim Margoitta, MISD Business Manager, reviewed with the Board the Notice of Public Meeting to Discuss Budget and Proposed Tax rate that will be published in the paper. The Board was given handouts regarding the budget. Questions were asked by the Board members.

Workshop was adjourned at 6:37 p.m.

Agenda Items:

Lease Purchase of Band Instruments - Superintendent Hopkins informed the Board that due to the lease purchase agreement exceeding the amount of $25,000 she was recommending that the district solicit for bids. Motion by Mr. Roger Nutt, seconded by Mrs. Rose Morin, to grant approval to solicit for bids for lease purchase of band instruments. The motion carried unanimously.
Revised Proposal - Lease Shop Building on Green Street - Motion by Ms. Lowanda Washington, seconded by Mr. Danny Vickers to accept the revised proposal to lease the shop building on Green Street for one year to Linda Johnson. Voting for: Ms. Lowanda Washington, Mr. Danny Vickers, Mrs. Rose Morin, Mrs. Byrleen Terry, Mr. Roger Nutt and Mr. Arthur Douglas. Mr. Carman Dingrando abstained from voting. The motion passed. Mrs. Johnson will pay $100 a month; insurance $700 for a $25,000 policy; lights will go in her name. She will also be responsible for keeping the field in back of the building mowed.
Bus Routes for 2001-2002 - Motion by Mrs. Byrleen Terry, seconded by Ms. Lowanda Washington, to accept the 2001-2002 bus routes as presented. The motion carried unanimously.
Date for Public Hearing & Proposed Tax Rate - Motion by Ms. Lowanda Washington, seconded by Mrs. Rose Morin, to approve the recommended date of August 30 at 6:00 p.m. to hold a public meeting on the budget and proposed tax rate. The motion carried unanimously.
Results of Closed Session

Personnel Employment - Motion by Mrs. Rose Morin, seconded by Mr. Carman Dingrando, to employ the following for the 2001-2002 school year: Rhonda Murphy - first grade; Charlene Bandfield-second grade; Cheryl Holland-fourth grade; Debra Suttle-resource teacher at elementary; Charles Kellner-history/coach, middle school; Donna Sterns-earth science, middle school; Philip Schwarz-health/PE/coach, middle school; Craig Ramsey-health/PE/coach, high school; William "Bill" Newton-US history/coach, high school; Danny Ramsey-ESL/coach; Sabrina Onalaja-math, high school. The motion carried unanimously.

Personnel Resignations - Motion by Mr. Roger Nutt, seconded by Ms. Lowanda Washington, to accept resignations from: Greg Henry, Sandy Turner and retiree Lois Hooker. The motion carried unanimously.

There were no board comments and the meeting was adjourned at 7:29 p.m.
