Regular Scheduled Board Meeting
July 18, 2000
Budget Workshop - Absent Mr. Arthur Douglas
Vice President Lowanda Washington turned the workshop over to Superintendent Hopkins. Handouts regarding budget updates were given to each Board member. She informed the Board there needs to be a small tax increase. A discussion ensued.

Consent Agenda - Motion by Mr. Danny Vickers, seconded by Mrs. Rose Morin, to approve the consent agenda. The motion carried unanimously. Consent agenda items: agenda, minutes of June 20 (6:00) bidget workshop, June 20 (7:00) and June 27, 2000 meetings and bills.
Budget Amendmentts - Motion by Mr. Danny Vickers, seconded by Mr. Keith Alston, to approve the budget amendments as presented. The motion carried unanimously.
Bus Routes 2000-2001 - Motion by Mr. Danny Vickers, seconded by Mr. Carman Dingrando, to approve the bus routes for 2000-2001 school year as presented. The motion carried unanimously.
Student Insurance - Motion by Mr. Keith Alston, seconded by Mr. Danny Vickers, to accept Student Athletic, Student Voluntary and Student Castatrophic Insurance Bid from Southwest Special Risk Insurance Agency. The motion carried unanimously.
Health Insurance - Motion by Mrs. Rose Morin, seconded by Mr. Danny Vickers, to adopt both policies (First Care and Scott & White) and the Dental Plan with Scott & White to provide employees with a choice. The motion carried unanimously.
Naming of Street into M.S. - Motion by Mrs. Rose Morin, seconded by Mr. Danny Vickers, to approve naming the street into Marlin Middle School - 678 Success Drive. The motion carried unanimously.
Inter-Local Agreement with TASB Workers' Comp Self-Ins Fund - Motion by Mr. Danny Vickers, seconded by Mr. Carman Dingrando, to renew the Inter-Local Agreement with TASB for the 2000-2001 school year. The motion carried unanimously.
Waiver - Early Releases - Motion by Mr. Keith Alston, seconded by Mrs. Rose Morin, to approve waiver for early releases as presented. The motion carried unanimously. The years requested are 2000-2001, 2001-2002 and 2002-2003. Early release dates for 2000-2001 school year are as follows: November 17, December 20, March 9 and April 12.
Approve Hourly Salary Schedule - Motion by Mr. Danny Vickers, seconded by Mrs. Rose Morin, to approve the proposed hourly salary schedules for custodial and cafeteria employees as presented. Voting for: Mr. Danny Vickers, Mrs. Rose Morin and Ms. Lowanda Washington. Voting against: Mr. Keith Alston and Mr. Carman Dingrando. The motion passed.
Appraisal Calendar for Teachers 2000-2001 - Motion by Mrs. Rose Morin, seconded by Mr. Carman Dingrando, to approve the appraisal calendar for teachers for the 2000-2001 school year as presented. The motion carried unanimously.
Canvass votes of Special Election - Motion by Mr. Keith Alston, seconded by Mr. Danny Vickers, to canvass the returns of the August 12 special election on Tuesday, August 15 at 12:00 noon. The motion carried unanimously. Ms. Lowanda Washington, Mrs. Rose Morin and Mr. Danny Vickers volunteered.
Update 63 - Motion by Mr. Keith Alston, seconded by Mrs. Rose Morin, that the Board adopt (LEGAL) and (LOCAL) policies as recommended by TASB Policy Service. The motion carried unanimously.
Superintendent's Report - Dr. Letha Hopkins, Superintendent, reported to the Board: 1) Exit interviews. Copies of exit interviews were given to each member.
