School Board ACTION REPORT

Meeting - August 19, 1997

Superintendent's Report

Principals Jo Ann Garrison (Intermediate Campus) and Beveerly Goldman (Elementary Campus) gave a presentation on the TAAS Recognized Campuses. Mrs. garrison explained what they did to achieve this high goal.

Discussion Item

Eddie Generals, Mariott Food Service Director, gave a presentation to the Board on MISD Food Service 1996-97 financial picture, special projects and future plans.

Adopt 1997-98 Budget

Motion was made by trustee Rose Sedillo, seconded by trustee Billie Jones to adopt the budget for 1997-98 school year as presented. The motion carried unanimously.

Consent Agenda

Motion by trustee Billie Jones, seconded by trustee ras Dancy, to approve the consent agenda with the recommendation from the superintendent to delete item 8-C (Consider and discuss tax rate) from the agenda. The motion carried unanimously. Consent Agenda items were: agenda, minutes of the July 29 (6:00 P.M.), July 29 (7:00 P.M.) and August 7, 1997 meetings, bills and budget amendment (s).

Closed Session Results

Personnel Employment - Motion by trustee Elaine Truett, seconded by trustee Billie Jones, to employ Tyesha Smith Gorman for PEP Director. The motion carried unanimously.

Level III Grievance - Motion by trustee Billie Jones, to take no action on grievence presented. Motion died for lack of a second. President Alston asked if there is any action to be considered regarding the grievance. Due to no action being taken, the Board upholds the administration decision at Level II.

Board Comments

Trustee Ras Dancy - "We have, hopefully, ended the differences in the salaries in the district. We now have a weighted unit attached with experience system. I do not quite understand the system, maybe a workshop would be helpful in explaining the system."

Trustee Billie Jones - "I am happy to see a smooth beginning to the school year."
