Pledge of Allegiance led by Boyd Alcorn, Chad Roberson and Taylor Kennedy, second grade students in Ms. Hamilton's class.
There were no public comments.
AGENDA ITEMS:
Bill (s) from The Chicken Place - Motion by Ms. Lowanda Washington, seconded by Mrs. Byrleen Terry, to approve the bills from The Chicken Place. Voting for: Ms. Lowanda Washington, Mrs. Byrleen Terry, Mrs. Rose Morin, Mr. Carman Dingrando and Mr. Arthur Douglas. Mr. Danny Vickers abstained from voting. The motion passed.
Consent Agenda - Motion by Ms. Lowanda Washington, seconded by Mrs. Rose Morin, to approve the consent agenda as presented. The motion carried unanimously. Consent agenda items: agenda, minutes of the August 21, August 30 (6:00 PM) and August 30 (6:30 PM), 2001 meeting/public hearing and other bills.
Approve Appeal Tax Judgment - Motion by Ms. Lowanda Washington, seconded by Mr. Carman Dingrando, to table this item until a final draft is drawn up. The motion carried unanimously.
Resolution-Submit Name to Falls County Appraisal Board of Directors- Motion by Mr. Danny Vickers, seconded by Ms. Lowanda Washington, to nominate Rose Morin and approve Resolution submitting her name for the Falls County Appraisal District Board of Directors. Voting for: Mr. Danny Vickers, Ms. Lowanda Washington, Mrs. Byrleen Terry, Mr. Carman Dingrando and Mr. Arthur Douglas. Mrs. Rose Morin abstained from voting. The motion passed.
Resolution-Extacurricular Status of 4-H Organization - Motion by Mrs. Byrleen Terry, seconded by Mrs. Rose Morin, to approve Resolution regarding 4-H Organization as approved for recognition and eligible for extracurricular status consideration under 19 Texas Administrative Code, Chapter 76.1 pertaining to extracurricular activities. The motion carried unanimously.
Falls County Extension Staff as Adjunct Instructors for 2001-02 - Motion by Ms. Lowanda Washington, seconded by Mr. Danny Vickers, to approve Falls County Extension staff Donald W. Kelm, Pate L. Adams and Whit H. Weems as adjunct instructors for the 2001-02 school year. The motion carried unanimously.
Waiver-Modified Schedule for TAAS Test Day at High School - Motion by Mr. Carman Dingrando, seconded by Mrs. Byrleen Terry and Ms. Lowanda Washington, to approve the waiver for modified schedule for TAAS test day at high school. The motion carried unanimously.
Requests for Early Graduation - Motion by Ms. Lowanda Washington, seconded by Mr. Danny Vickers, to approve early graduation request from Ashley Vincent and Alejandra Cubilla. This motion carried unanimously.
Bid (s) for Surplus Items - Motion by Mr. Danny Vickers, seconded by Mrs. Rose Morin, to accept bid of $25.00 each(total of $50.00) from Marlin Volunteer Fire Department for industrial gas stove and industrial vent exhaust hood located in the old middle school; accept bid of $5.00 from Keziah AAA Education Center for two double-tiered computer desks and one small adjustable chair with casters; accept bid of $100.00 from James E. Mitchell for 12 MacIntosh computers and their components; accept bid of $15.00 from Joel Taylor for a wood frame door with multiple glass panels; accept bid of $132.00 from James King for six large tables; and reject bid of $24.00 from Marlin Volunteer Fire Department for four large tables. The motion carried unanimously.
Special Education Policy & Procedures Manual - Motion by Mrs. Rose Morin, seconded by Mrs. Byrleen Terry, to approve the Special Education Policy and Procedures Manual as presented. The motion carried unanimously.
Discussion Item & Public Comments - Facility Grant - Superintendent Hopkins handed each Board member a copy of the Facility Grant to review. She stated the purpose of the grant is to repair and renovate school buildings. The grant is through the Texas Education Agency. Proposed repairs and renovations to Marlin High School are: 1) install elevator in the existing elevator shaft and other ADA modifications to increase facility access for our students and community members; 2) clean and seal ducts and replace insulation; 3) replace carpet; 4) install security cameras and wiring to allow monitoring; 5) plumbing and sewage modernization; 6) enclosing library, installing ventilation/ductwork and lighting/electrical system which meet school building codes. Questions were asked by the Board members. President Douglas then opened the floor for public comments. There were no public comments.
Discussion Item - Truancy Information - Judge Lynda Trousdale was not able to be at the meeting. President Douglas stated there is a conflict of who is to handle the truancy cases. This is an issue that needs to be resolved. President Douglas asked that this be rescheduled for the next regular Board meeting.
Results of Closed Session:
Personnel Employment - Motion by Mrs. Byrleen Terry, seconded by Mr. Carman Dingrando, to employ the following for the 2001-02 school year: Stacy Brignac-Social Worker, Sp. Ed.; Amber Titus-Therapy Assistant and Pamela Ramsey-math, high school. The motion carried unanimously.
Personnel Resignations - Motion by Mr. Danny Vickers, seconded by Ms. Lowanda Washington, to accept resignations from Shelly Stripling, Laura Black and with sincere regrets, resignation from Brian Childs. The motion carried unanimously.
