ACTION REPORT

Special Called Meeting for a Public Hearing on the Performance Rating of the marlin Elementary School

Meeting was called to order by President, Arthur Douglas at 5:30 P.M. All board trustees were present with the exception of Mrs. Byrleen Terry.

Presentation of Plans to Improve TAAS Scores - Superintendent Hopkins stated the purpose of this hearing is to notify the public that the performance rating of Marlin elementary School is low performing. This rating is a result of a 49.2% score in reading in our economically disadvantaged subgroup. An additional two students passing would have made our percentage the required 50%. Texas Education Agency expects all groups to score a minimum of 50% in all areas of the TAAS (Texas Assessment of Academic Skills). A team from the Texas Education Agency will be conducting an on-site visit the week of December 3, 2001. Should Marlin ISD not show improvement, Texas Education Agency could impose sanctions and interventions.

Ms. Kelley Berry, Marlin Elementary School Principal, then presented each Board member a copy of the Marlin Elementary TAAS Action Plan which outlines plans to improve their TAAS scores. Ms. Berry went over its contents with the Board and answered questions the Board asked.

Public Comments - President Douglas asked if anyone in the audience wished to speak. No one came forward.

Adjourned - President Douglas adjourned the meeting at 5:57 P.M.
