Sting The Dogs
In 18 AAA baseball action it's pretty much a given that the Lorena Leopards will win the district as they sport a 6-0 district mark and a 16-0 overall record. With Troy's win over Cameron on April 7, they move into a tie with Cameron at 4-2 and both teams are a game up on Caldwell for the second and third slot.
The Dogs go to Lorena on Friday, April 11. But their final three games are at home where they always seem to play better. They will play Cameron on Monday, April 14, Rockdale on Thursday, April 17 and finish up district play vs. Troy on April 22. Sitting at 1-5 the Dogs will have to just about win out and get alot of help to see the post season this year.
Turning to the Caldwell game on Monday, April 7 - This was a really good ball game through the first four innings as both teams were tied at two. Caldwell jumped on top in the first inning scoring two runs on two hits but the Bulldog defense then shut them down for the next three innings holding them scorelss.
The Dogs broke out in the bottom of the third. After a Chris Stewart strikeout, freshman D'Nerio Alexander drew a walk and then proceeded to steal second base. Devon Hughes then flew out to left field for out number two. Stepping to the plate was shortstop Cody Malone who ripped a triple to right center scoring Alexander easily to make it 2-1 Hornets. Then pitcher Mark Jimenez connected for a stand up double to score Malone with the tying run.
But that would be it for the Dogs as their bats went silent over the last three innings whilte the Hornets scored three in the fifth and two more in the sixth to take a 7-2 win.
Jimenez pitched well for the Dogs, going the distance giving up only six hits while striking out eight Hornets.
Next up for the Dogs - the Lethal Leopards from Lorena!
