Bulldogs
Win In Extra Innings
The Varsity Baseball team moved to the 500 mark on the year with a 3-2 win over Reicher in 10 innings on March 10 at Marlin. This one turned into a real pitching dual as senior Barrett Terry went 8 innings giving up only 1 hit, one unearned run while striking out 10. As a team though Marlin didn't do much on the offensive end either as they had only two hits - Eric Venegas and Will Butler - both singles.
The Bulldogs got on the board first as Cody Malone scored from third on a single byVenegas. Reicher came back to tie it, the Dogs took the lead again at 2-1 with Stephen Woodward scoring. Woodward drew a walk moved to second on a bunt by Malone, reached third on a fielder's choice off the bat of Butler and came around to score on Venegas' second hit of the game.
Reicher tied it up once again as we headed to extra innings. Malone took over pitching in the eighth inning and held Reicher at bay as we went to the bottom of the 10th. And it was a "thrill" of an inning!
Will "The Thrill" Butler walked and following an error on the first baseman off a bunted ball from Venegas, Butler came chugging all the way home with the winning run! Venegas was credited with an RBI giving him all 3 RBI's for the game.
In addition to the fine game pitched by Terry and Malone they were both helped by centerfielder Devon Hughes, who made spectacular catches of hard hit fly balls hit to the fence and the duo infield combination of Malone and Mark Jimenez.
The team travels to Grandview on Tuesday, March 18 and then will open district play at Caldwell on the 21st.
