It was the bulldogs who did the "stinging" as they came away with a 57-51 win over the Hornets of Gatesville.
The victory wrapped up Round One for the bulldogs and assured the team a playoff birth come late February.
Balanced scoring on this night as 10 bulldogs were in the scoring column. A breakdown follows as we wrap up first round action:
Leading scorer was Charles Johnson with 12 pts which gives him 318 points on the year and a 13.8 average per game. "Poochie" also had 11 rebounds to move his season total to 289. He leads the team in this department and averages 12.6 boards a game. He also had three assists which gives him a team leading 165 on the year.
The "Field General," Ashley Anderson had 11 pts on the night. Anderson was injured most of the early season but seems to have regained his style of play as he had six assists to give him 114 on the year for an 8.1 average per game which leads the district in this department.
Third starter Dontel Carroll had seven points and pulled down 15 rebounds to give him 188 boards on the year (third on the team). Dontel also hit 5 of 8 from the charity stripe to move his season total to 36 of 55 for 65.5%.
The fourth starter, Desmond Woodson had an off night in the scoring column with only two points but he blocked four shots to give him a team leading 77 on the year. Desmond is also third on the team in scoring with 218 points for a 0.1 average per game. He is second in rebounding with 199.
The teams leading scorer, Bernard Washington also had an off night as he to only scored two points. But those two points moved his total points scored on the year to 383 for a game average of 16.0. Bernard also is third on the team in assists with an even 100. He also picked up two steals to move his season total to 133 to lead the team in this category. Bernard also has hit 64 of 204 from three point range and 59 of 84 from the charity stripe for a 70.2% mark.
Also scoring in the Gatesville game were - Jeremy Modkins with nine; Desmond Watson with seven; Bert Tiller with four; DeMarcus Smith with two and David Scruggs with one.
Second Round action begins February 2nd with the bulldogs traveling to Cameron.
