An 84-yard touchdown run by Cecil "Boo" Kelly capped a 14-point rally as the Bulldogs beat the China Spring Cougars 35-20 on October 24.
China Spring had taken a 20-6 halftime lead as Daniel Baird scored on a two-yard run with 5:22 left in the first half.
The Bulldogs came charging back when Anthony McAllister returned a Ben Cawthon pass 30 yards for a touchdown in the third quarter and then Reggie Smith took it in from 12 yards out to give the Bulldogs a 21-20 lead.
Then came the back-breaker for the Cougars. With only 2:19 left on the clockChina Spring had moved to the Bulldog 14 yard line and faced a 3rd and 8 situation. QB Cawthonís pass was tipped at the line of scrimmage and Bulldog defensive lineman Cassisus "Bootsy" Johnson picked it off and Marlin had killed the Cougars chances.
Then on their first offensive play, "Boo" Kelly scoots left and put on the after burners going 86 yards for a TD to put the game out of reach.
The Bulldogs added an insurance touchdown with 13 seconds left when quarterback Shaun Henry hit Jante Cheeves on a 32-yard scoring play.
Kelly rushed for 215 yards on 19 carries, while Henry hit seven of 23 passes for 102 yards. The Bulldogs finished with 463 total offense.
With the win Marlin goes to 5-3 on the year and 3-2 in district play.
