The Bulldogs moved to 2-1 on the year with a convincing 32-0 shut out over the Mexia Blackouts before the home town crowd at Legion Field on September 18.

The Bulldogs first score came with three minutes left in the first quarter when quarterback Jeremy Modkins hit wide receiver Desmond Watson with a 31-yard pass for a TD. Nathan Polster added the extra point to make it 7-0.

The Marlin defense then got the ball back as Clifton Hopwood recovered a fumble at the Bulldog 49-yard line as the first quarter ended.

Three plays later, running back DeMarcus Smith broke for 52 yards and a touchdown. The point after was blocked and the score was 13-0. The score would remain 13-0 as both teams headed for the lockers at halftime.

The third quarter was scoreless but on the first play of the final period, the bulldogs scored again as Modkins ran 6 yards for a touchdown to make it 19-0.

Then it was "Reggie Time." as in Reggie Smith breaking up the middle, shedding tacklers and rambling 45 yards to pay dirt. Polster's point after was good and the Bulldogs were up 26-0.

The 'dawgs weren't finished yet. They saved their best for last. Backed up to their own 14-yard line and facing 3rd and 12, quarterback Modkins handed off to DeMarcus Smith going left, and breaking down the far side line, he put on the after burners and dashed 86 yards outrunning "would be" Black Cats for a touchdown. Final score Marlin 32 Mexia 0.

On the night the bulldog defense, led by Clifton Hopwood, held Mexia to 8 first downs (only one in the second half) and 198 total yards. (only 68 on the ground)

The bulldog offense ran up over 500 total yards with three players rushing for over 100 yards. Demarcus Smith finished with 182 yards on 11 carries and 2 touchdowns. Modkins had 109 yards rushing on 16 carries with one touchdown and hit on 4 of 14 through the air for 107 yards and one touchdown. Reggie Smith had 104 yards on 18 carries and one touchdown.

The bulldogs travel to state-ranked Alvarado on September 25.
