Marlin ISD

 It was opening night of district play as the Robinson Rockets came calling on the Bulldogs at Legion Field on October 9. The game was knotted at 12 a piece at halftime but in the second half it was all Rockets as they went onto a 32-12 victory.

Marlin scored first in the game at the 4:43 mark as DeMarcus Smith took a handoff from QB Jeremy Modkins and ran 33 yards for a touchdown. The extra point was no good and the "dawgs were up 6-0 after one quarter of play.

With seven minutes remaining in the second quarter, the Rockets got their first score on a one yard run by Gerald "Refridge" Ridge, a 240 pound junior lineman that was inserted into the backfield. And then after a Marlin fumble gave the Rockets the ball on the five yard line, running back, Marcus Horne took it in from three yards out scored to make it 12-6 Rockets.

With just over two minutes before halftime, the bulldogs would answer back as Modkins took it in from the one to make it even up at 12-12 as both teams headed for their lockers.

The second half was all Rockets. On the first offensive play of the second half, Marlin fumbled the ball and that BIG MAN again, "Fridge Ridge" fell on the ball in the end zone and with Kevin Fowler's point after it was 19-12 Rockets. The Fridge was not done yet. On a second and goal from the two with 3:44 left in the third quarter, he rumbled to pay dirt for his third TD on the night to make it 25-12 Rockets.

The final score of the night came with just under seven minutes left in the game when junior running back, Eddie Reyes took it in from 18 yards out and with Fowlers extra point, the final was 32-12 Rockets..

For the bulldogs on offense, DeMarcus Smith finished the night with 102 rushing yards on 10 carries and one touchdown. On the defensive side of the ball, Cassius Johnson, Dustin Sowders, Roderick Scruggs and Clifton Hopwood had excellent games.

It doesn't get any easier for the bulldogs this week as the Hornets from Gatesville will come calling on Legion Field on "Parent Night."
