Bulldogs shut out Teague

Win Bi-District Title!

Make it three shutouts in a row for the Marlin Bulldogs as they blanked the Teague Lions 31-0 on Saturday, November 13 at A&M Consolidated. The win gives the bulldogs the Bi-District title and sets up an "Area Championship" game next week against the Rockdale Tigers.

After a sluggish start, the bulldogs got it in gear . On their second possession quarterback Jeremy Modkins hit wide receiver Desmond Watson for a 15-yard scoring pass with six minutes remaining in the opening quarter. The extra point was wide and the bulldogs were up 6-0.

On their fourth possession the dogs again found the end zone. This time it was DeMarcus "Mo" Smith taking a pitch from Modkins and racing down the left sideline knocking down any would be Lion tackler in his path for a 53-yard scoring run. Once more the point after was no good but the dogs were up 12-0 going to the half.

On Marlin's first possession of the second half, beginning at their own 21, Modkins hit Carlos Bailey for a 25-yard gain. Then Modkins hit Watson who hauled the ball down at the Teague 14. And then on a fourth and goal from inside the one, "Mo" scored his second TD of the night. The point after hit the uprights - no good but the dogs were now up 18-0.

Then the play of the night. On Marlins next possession running back Roderick Scruggs took a handoff from Modkins from their own 31-yard line. Everyone in the stands rose to their feet as Scruggs, like a bowling ball, rolled over any would-be Lion tacklers (pens) and literally bulled his way straight down the field 69 yards to pay dirt! "Mo" added the point after and the dogs moved out to a 25-0 lead.

The dogs would score one "Mo" time in the final quarter. An 89 yard drive culminated by Smiths third touchdown of the night made the final score 31-0 Marlin.

The win puts the dogs into the Area Finals on Saturday, November 20. As mentioned earlier they will take on the Rockdale Tigers, a team they beat in the first game of the season 14-12. But it was also the Tigers who sent Marlin home last year in the Area playoff game at Groesbeck by a 13-6 score. Call it a revenge game - We will see!

GO DAWGS!! See you at the game!

Game will be played at Pflugerville High School. Game time 7:30 p.m.
