Hornets Totally "Tanked"
It was homecoming for the Bulldogs and they didn't disappoint the hometown crowd as Tank Smith scored four touchdowns while Vincent's Defense gained their third district shutout in a 31-0 win over Caldwell. Coupled with Rockdale's upset over Lorena 16-9 the Bulldogs sit alone at the top in district play with a perfect 3-0 record with two games to go.
It took most of the first quarter before the Bulldogs finally broke on top with Tank scoring his first touchdown of the night from seven yards out with 2:22 remaining in the quarter... Chris Stewart who accounted for all the other scoring on the night added his first point after to make it 7-0.
Early in the second quarter Tank scored his second TD from 17 yards out. Stewart again was true on the point after and it was 14-0 Dos with 11:53 remaining before halftime.
At the 8:15 mark of the second quarter Stewart splits the uprights from 15 yards out for a field goal to make it 17-0 at the half.
Halftime festivities were highlighted with the crowning of Lareshia McGowan as this years homecoming queen. Lareshia was escorted by her father.
Also at halftime the Band Sweetheart and Beau were recognized. They were Veronica Urive escorted by her father Johnnie Urive and Gabriel Pineda escorted by his mother.
Returning to the game it was Tank for his third touchdown with 6:55 left in the quarter on a beautiful 39-yard run to pay dirt. Once more Stewart was good on the point after to make it 24-0.
Tank would score his fourth touchdown with 4:37 remaining in the game as he ran in from 5 yards out. Stewart added his fourth point after to make the final score 34-0 Bulldogs.
On the night Tank carried 28 times for 204 yards. As a team the Dogs rushed for 442 yards while Jeremy Sanders added 70 yards thru the air on 5 of 8 passes for a total of 512 yards on offense.
Vincent's defense strutted their stuff once again as they held the Hornets to a total of 49 yards on the night (26 thru the air and 23 on the ground).
The Dogs can wrap up the district title this coming
Friday night with a win at Lorena.
