Its a Happy Homecoming for the Dogs!

The bulldogs upped their season record to 7-1 with a 34-10 whipping of the Cameron Yoeman at Legion Field on October 22nd.

The win keeps the dog in a showdown pace with the Leopards of Lorena who also won their district game. Both team stand at 3-0 in district and will face-off at Legion Field in the district finale come November 5.

The dogs got the crowd into the game early on as Ellis Jackson intercepted a Yoe pass and returned it 15 yards to the Marlin 41. The ground game of the bulldogs took over with runs by Mo Smith, Roderick Scruggs, Derrick Berry and quarterback, Jeremy Modkins all helping to move the ball to the Yoe 19 yard line. On a second and eight, Modkins pitched to Smith who danced untouched to pay dirt. The extra point by Brandon Lofton was good and the dogs had a 7-0 lead.

The bulldogs scored their second touchdown of the night when facing a 3rd and eight from the Cameron 23, Modkins kept the ball on a bootleg right for a score. Lofton's point after was good to make it 14-0 with 17 seconds remaining in the opening period.

The Marlin D again stepped up. Defender Willie Smith picked off a Yoe pass and returned it 15 yards to the forty. Smith took a pitch from Modkins and covered 37 yards to the Yoe three. Two plays later Smith scored his second touchdown of the night. Lofton's third point after was good and the lead was 21-0.

The Yoemen finally got on the score board with their next possession. A "flea flicker" pass from tailback Edward Lewis to a wide open receiver down the right sideline set the Yoe up at the Bulldog six yard line. Lewis would then take it the rest of the way to cut the lead to 21-7. This would be all the scoring of the first half as both teams headed for their lockers.

In the second half, it was Cameron who would score first. After an interception of a Modkins pass set the Yoe up for business at the bulldog 37. They would move the ball to the Marlin five yard line before the defense said - "No more!" Three plays and no score the Yoe went for a field goal which was good to cut the lead to 21-10.

A shift in the momentum? Any such thought would be silenced when Modkins, facing a third and nine from his own 24 yard line, faked a handoff to the left and came around the right side, darting in and out and around would -be Yoemen tacklers, 76 yards all the way to pay dirt! The celebrating then started big time for the fans and the players. High five's everywhere. And to think Modkins and Smith BOTH will be back next year!

The dogs added one more score on the night when a muffed punt return by the Yoemen was recovered by Derrick Berry at the Cameron 17 yard line. One play later, that name again would be heard as Jeremy Modkins scooted 17 yards for his third score of the night. Final Marlin 34 Cameron 10.

Next week the team travels to take on the bulldogs from McGregor and then its back home for the much anticipated show down with Lorena!

See ya at the game!
