That was the name of the game as the bulldogs and Yoeman fought hard before Marlin came through in the closing minutes of the fourth quarter on an 18-yard pass from QB, Jeremy Modkins to WR Desmond Watson to edge Cameron 7-3.
The win puts the bulldogs alone in second place and solidifies their playoff hopes. With victories in their last two games, the dogs are in!
On to the Yoeman game where the bulldogs traveled to Cameron on the 23rd to meet their newest 3-A rivals.
Taking the opening kick-off, the Yoemen set up at their own 33-yard line and began to march down the field with an impressive ground game. The drive finally stalled at the bulldog 18 where Cameron QB, Brett Sapp nailed a 35-yard field goal to give the Yoe a 3-0 lead, which would hold up until the 4th quarter.
In between it was all DEFENSE. Letís introduce this outstanding bulldog defensive unit: At noseguard, Roderick Scruggs; defensive tackles, Courtney Armstead and Clifton Hopwood; outside linebackers, Dustin Sowders and Steve Thomas; inside linebackers, Cassius Johnson and David Scruggs; cornerbacks, Donald Benjamin and Buddy Davis; free safety, Jeremy Modkins and strong safety, Jante Cheeves. Linebacker Danny Sadler, defensive tackle Nathan Polster and Desmond Watson in the secondary round out this unit.
On the night the Yoeman were held to a total of 114 yards. (49 of those coming on the opening drive)
Marlinís individual stats for the game - QB Jeremy Modkins hit 4 of 8 in passing for 52 yards and one touchdown and rushed for 42 yards on 11 carries.
Running back, DeMarcus Smith carried 19 times for 112 yards while Reggie Smith rushed for 56 yards on 14 carries.
In the receiving department it was Desmond Watson with two reception for 37 yards and the lone TD; Jante Cheeves, one reception for 8 yards and Bert Tiller one reception for 7 yards.
This week will be homecoming in Marlin as the "other" bulldogs come barking from McGregor. See you at the game!
