Dogs Win In OT!

The bulldogs from Marlin took on the bulldogs from Crockett on a wet night at Crockett Stadium on October 5 and it took four quarters and three overtime's before quarterback Thaddeus Freeman's 2-yard sneak gave the bulldogs their first win of the season.

After a scoreless first quarter, L. Riley scored in the second quarter to give Crockett a 6-0. This is where the score remained at the half.

Marlin came back to tie it in the third quarter when defensive back Red Richardson picked off a Crockett pass and brought it back 40-yards for the tying touchdown. The scored remained tied at 6 all as regulation time expired.

In the first overtime, Alvin Hall scored from six yards out and then added a two -point conversion to make it 14-6 Marlin. Crockett answered as Dustin Coulter scored from six yards out. Andy Parker then caught a pass on the two point conversion try and we were again tied at 14 all going to the second overtime. This time both defenses rose to the occasion and no one scored as we headed to the third overtime. Marlin struck first with Freeman breaking free on a 14 yard run to the Crockett two. From there he called his own number, sneaking it in for the go-ahead touchdown. The dog defense then held Crockett to a four and out to seal the victory.

On the night, Hall rushed for 103 yards on 14 carries. He also scored one touchdown and a two-point conversion.

Nate Humphrey led the defense with 22 tackles. Mark Jimenez also returned to action after suffering a back injury in the mart game and finished with seven tackles.

So now its time for district play. Marlin will travel to Mexia to take on the Blackcats on Friday, October 12. The Blackcats have dropped two straight games but all teams are at 0-0 at this time. It should be a great ball game.

Other district games have Robinson at Groesbeck and Fairfield at Teague.
