DOGS CLINCH DISTRICT TITLE!
The bulldogs moved their district record to 4-0 as they "nested" the Eagles from Fairfield by a score of 52-13 this past Friday night at Legion Field. The victory coupled with Groesbeck's loss to Teague clinched the district title for the dogs for the second year in a row.
Leading the dogs to victory on "Parent Night" was the running of freshman running back, Uriah "Tank" Smith who rushed for 151 yards on 15 carries while scoring two touchdowns.
The bulldogs jumped out to a fast 21-0 lead in the first quarter. A fumble recovery by Matterial "Red" Richardson turned into a 35- yard touchdown run. Daniel Ronquilla added the point after and it was 7-0 dogs with less than a minute gone in the quarter. At the 7:43 mark of the first quarter, QB Thaddeus Freeman scored form 28-yards out, Ronquilla added the point after to make it 14-0 and then Freeman hit Alvin Hall on a short pass that Hall turned into a 52 yard run to pay dirt, knocking down would-be Eagle tacklers along the way. Again Ronquilla's extra point was good and the dogs were up 21-zip.
The Eagles got on the scoreboard in the second quarter as their QB, Chance Elliott scored from a yard out. The point after was no good and the score stood at 21-6.
The dogs came back and scored two more times before the half. Smith scored his first of two touchdowns from a yard out and Richardson returned a punt 49 - yards for his second touchdown of the night. Ronquilla was good on both PAT's and the dogs had a 35-6 lead at the half.
In the third, Ronquilla connected from 21 yards to make it 38-6. Then WR Wayne McIntosh caught a 22-yard pass in the end zone from Freeman (Ronquilla's extra point was good) and at the end of three the dogs had stretched their lead to 45-6.
Smith's second touchdown of the night came with 10:40 left to play as he scored from 3-yards out. Ronquilla added the point after to make it 52-6. The Eagles scored the final touchdown of the game with 5:04 to play with Elliott scoring from 2 yards out. Final score Bulldogs 52 and Eagles 13.
The dogs will try to finish district with a perfect
5-0 record as they travel to Groesbeck this week to take on the Goats. The Teague
Lions held off a Goat rally at Teague this past Friday night and beat Groesbeck
by a score of 24-19. The Goat loss put Teague in the driver's seat for the final
playoff spot in the district.
