Turnovers costly as Panthers down Bulldogs

The bulldogs traveled to Midway on September 11 and if the opening kick-off had been any indication the Panthers were in for a BIG scare.

An electrifying 80-yard run for a touchdown on the third play from scrimmage by bulldog Donald Benjamin had the Marlin fans standing (even before some had even taken their seat). But this was about all the crowd had to cheer about as the Panthers went on to beat the Bulldogs 30-6 in a game where the weather paid havoc on the bulldogs.

The Panthers took advantage of a short punt and two turnovers to open up a 22-6 half-time lead.

The Bulldogs had a chance to score again in the second half when Jante Cheeves intercepted a pass and returned it to the Panther 41. On a 4th and one, quarterback Jeremy Modkins dove for a first down but the drive stalled at the 21 yard line. On a 3rd and 10 Modkins fumbled while trying to pass and there was a loss of 14. Then on 4th and 24 the Panthers forced another fumble for an 11 yard loss.

Midway then took over and drove 55 yards for a touchdown to put the game out of reach.

For the night, outside of Benjamin's 80 yard run, the bulldogs were held to only 64 yards on the ground. Modkins hit on 4 of 16 passing for 42 yards and one interception.
