Dogs Sit Alone At The Top!

It wasn't the most exciting game to watch from the stands BUT a win is a win and the dogs beat the Teague Lions by a score of 17-7 and moved to 3-0 in district play.
And with Mexia's comeback victory over Groesbeck by a score of 21-19, the dogs sit alone at the top in district 19 AAA play.

Play was a little sluggish early on in this ball game, as neither team could get on the scoreboard in the first quarter. Then with 7:27 left in the second quarter, the bulldog fans got their first look at their "New Kid On The Block." There had been a lot of talk going around about a new field goal kicker. And now the fans got their first look at him in action. Daniel Ronquilla, a junior trotted on the field and lined up to kick a 28-yard field goal. The kick sailed right down the middle (probably would have been good from 40 yards) and the dogs were up 3-0. Then with 6:20 remaining before the half, Carlos Bailey intercepted a Lion pass and raced 45 yards to pay dirt. Ronquilla's point after was true and we went to the lockers at halftime up 10 zip.

In the second half it was freshman running back, Uriah Smith scoring from one yard out in the third quarter and with Ronquilla's point after the shutout was in tack at 17-0. The Lions would get on the board in the fourth quarter as Garrett Moore scored from 5 yards out. Final score Dogs 17 - Lions 7.

On the night the dogs rushed for 193 yards with Alvin Hall leading the way with 66 yards on 13 carries. The defense played superb, holding the Lions to 87 total yards on offense. Leading tackler for the dogs was John Sadler with 10, giving him 81 on the year to lead the team in that department.

Next up, the Fairfield Eagles (losers at Robinson last week). It will be Parent Night at Legion Field with kick-off scheduled for 7:30 P.M.
