Soccer Team Starts District Play With 7-2 Win Over Lorena

District play for 2003 got under way at Legion Field as the Lorena Leopards came visiting. Marlin beat Lorena earlier in the year by a score of 7-0 BUT this was district and things were a little tougher early on.

The Dogs got off to a slow start and Lorena scored first. The Dogs answered back as Oscar Lopez scored off an assist from Daniel Ronquillo. Back came the Leopards to take a 2-1 lead. Marco Hernandez tied it up for the Dogs with an unassisted goal.

Hernandez again scored unassisted to give Marlin a 3-2 lead at the half.

After some regrouping and soul searching at halftime, the team came out strong scoring four goals and holding the Leopards scoreless. Hugo Gonzales scored off an assist from Ronquillo. Then Ronquillo scored off an assist from Eduardo Becerra and again came Ronquillo with his second goal. This one was unassisted. Hernandez added another goal,(unassisted) his third of the night to make the final 7-2.

The team will travel to Corsicana on Friday and will return home to face a powerful Midway team on the 28th. The starting time for the Midway game is 6 PM.
