Soccer Season Ends on A Good Note!

The Marlin Bulldogs finished up the 2002-2003 season with a victory over LaVega by a score of 8-3 at Legion Field on March 7.

The Dogs opened the scoring early on. Jesus Calderon with an assist from Eduardo Becerra and then Luis Vasquez with an assist from Hugo Gonzales scored to give the Bulldogs a quick 2-0 lead.

With 15 minutes to go in the first half, Hugo scored unassisted followed by an unassisted goal by Daniel Ronquillo to make it 4-0 at the half.

LaVega came out strong to start the second half, scoring two quick goals. But Ronquillo answered with his second unassisted goal and then Jesus Calderon followed with another goal to make it 6-2.

Hugo scored his second goal of the night off a beautiful set up by Ronquillo and the Pirates quickly answered back to make it 7-3.

With seven minutes to go in the final game of the season, Marco Hernandez scored to make the final 8-3.

During half-time festivities, the senior soccer players were recognized in front of family and friends. The team bid farewell and good luck to - Eduardo Becerra, Michael Galvez, Marco Hernandez Antonio Reyes and Daniel Ronquillo.

As a team the Bulldogs finished with their best record ever in the history of soccer at Marlin ISD. They also finished fourth overall in the district. (The first 3 places went to 4 A teams).
