Bethany "BURNS" the Trojans.
# 7 Senior Bethany Burns went 3-4 at the plate, scored one run and drove in two to boost her average on the year to a scorching .550. Unfortunately though the Ladies lost to the Trojans 4-5
Ladies Drop A Close One To The Trojans
Through five innings it looked as
though the Ladies were going to notch their third win of the season, as they
were ahead 2-0 behind the shutout pitching of senior pitcher Allison Vickers.
But in the top of the sixth, Vickers began to tire and the bats of the Trojans
came alive as they went on to beat the Ladies 5-4.
The Ladies had jumped out in front in the bottom of the first inning with lead
off hitter Bethany Burns getting it started with a single. Burns later scored
on a sacrifice fly by Adoria Roberts to give the Ladies a 1-0 lead.
They would add a second run in the bottom of the second as freshman Kayla Spears,
who singled would score off Burns second hit of the night. This made it 2-0
Ladies and the scored remained here until the 6th.
In the top of the sixth, things began to falter for our Ladies. Leadoff hitter
J. Mitchell reached first on a bunt single and five hits in a row later the
Trojans had a 4-2 lead going to the bottom of the sixth.
First up for the Ladies was senior Rachel Blansit who flied out to centerfield.
Vickers then got a single and moved to second on a single by Cecily Logan. Spears
singled to load the bases for hot hitting Burns who delivered with her third
hit of the night driving in Vickers and Logan to tie the game at 4. Amber Mulsow
grounded out to end the inning.
So we went to the final inning all tied up at four. Trojan, J Mitchell quickly
got her team in scoring position with a lead off triple. Mitchell later scored
on a sacrifice fly to center by E. Rivera to give the Trojans a one run lead
as we headed to the bottom of the seventh.
Adoria Roberts grounded out to short to lead off the inning. Christie Christian
(who made an outstanding defensive play earlier) went down swinging for out
number two. And in stepped Blansit and she quickly rips a triple to left center
field to put the tying run at third. But we just couldn't get her home and the
Ladies lost a close one 4-5.
On the night Burns was the leading hitter going 3-4 at the plate to boost her
average to a scorching .550 on the year. On the mound Vickers continues to impress
everyone striking out eight Trojans to give her forty "K's" on the
year.
With the loss the Ladies drop to 2-4 on the year and will travel to Palestine
on Friday March 3rd. They will return home on Tuesday, March 7 to face Bruceville-Eddy.
District play will start March 14 at Mexia.
Kevin Morton and Shelly Salcisscia Smith coach the team.
